I heard a very bad news yesterday that really made me wanna scream.

A girl of 4 years, niece of mine got raped. From what I understood - by her very own uncle at her father's side. She's just a baby, damn it! She didn't deserve this.

She used to be a very bubbly girl, mischievous and playful and now from what I have heard she just kept to herself, quiet most of the time.

The doctor they went to refused to examine her because he didn't want to testify in court.

What the F*ck? I mean what's wrong with these people. Is this world just getting crazier than ever?

I told my mom about it and she said, they should go to the NBI and have her examined there. I hope that they prosecute whoever did this to her.

I don't know how this child will grow up. There's no support group in the Philippines for rape victims like in developed countries.

Her mom is in another part of the world - not really showing any concern for her kids. Her family think she's lying when she says she has no work there - an acquaintance sees her hanging out with friends and living like a bachelorette.

The girl's grandmother took her in her care for now but life is really difficult as they hardly make ends meet.

Oh Jade that is horrific. Surely there is somone that could help. This person needs to be stopped or they may do this again. Oh doesnt it make you sick. There is a website I go to Imaginiff
http://www.imaginif.com.au/ that is all about child protection. I wonder whether Meaghan could give you some advice.

Jade,
I'm sorry to hear about this. The person responsible should be put to justice. He just ruined the life of an innocent child. I hope your niece is okay and in safe care of your other relatives. I will pray for all of you.

Hugs,

OH Jade... this is really sad. my heart goes out to that little girl. it's really devastating. and in the Phils... i don't know. you know how it is in there. there are lots of rape cases there and lots of those cases are just in the file. i pray for that little kid.

ian said... @ November 4, 2008 at 10:17 PM

ms jade, if your loved ones are in the metro manila area, they can go to the Philippine General Hospital Emergency Room Complex, there is a section there called the Child Protection Unit (CPU) which specializes in taking care of children who've been subjected to physical and sexual abuse. i briefly worked with them when i was in training at the PGH.

The Unit has a full complement of caring, competent physicians, social workers, therapists, etc who maybe of help to her. They are excellent expert witnesses in court cases. They operate M-F, 8-5.

If a patient is taken at odd hours of the day or on weekends, the PGH-ER has on duty resident physicians in pediatrics and ob-gyn who may likewise be of help to them.

the PGH can be reached at +632-5218450. the CPU may likewise be able to refer your niece and her family to their network of colleagues in areas outside Metro Manila.

i hope this somehow helps. God bless you and your family more-

i know these may sound weird: but if possible, the child should not be bathed so they can recover trace samples of evidence from her body. also, do not discard the clothes she wore, do not wash them or throw them away, for the same reason as above. and most importantly, easier said than done, i pray the family will not take the law into their own hands...

Anonymous said... @ November 4, 2008 at 10:28 PM

That is just so horrific. I must suggest that do all you can do to help. Get another examiner. It's also vey depressing that the Philippine government has not enough laws to enact such actions of punishment to child rape victims especially done by family members. My prayers go to your family, esp. the girl.

ian said... @ November 4, 2008 at 10:29 PM

and as an additional resource, you may also want to visit http://www.childprotection.org.ph/index.html and http://www.childprotection.org.ph/databases/index.adp to find out who can be of help to to your niece in and outside of metro manila.

How awful :(. When I hear things like that I just want to scoop up the child and save them!
If they are going to continue to make her live near her rapist uncle with no repercussions, can you offer to take her?

Unknown said... @ November 4, 2008 at 11:16 PM

Oh my God!!!! I just want to strangle whoever did it. Bastard, no soul!! I'm sorry to hear about this. It's just horrible. I hope she finds some she can confide in.

Aisha said... @ November 4, 2008 at 11:53 PM

This will really affect her for as long as she lives! So sad! He's a stupid doctor. Yeah, you should go to the NBI and seek justice for her. What about Bantay Bata 163?

Heather (How to be a Woman..?) said... @ November 5, 2008 at 12:39 AM

I'm so sorry to hear your news, Jade. The man needs to be staked through the heart. I honestly can't even comprehend pedophilia let alone child (or any kind of) rape, but it seems to be shockingly prevalent. What can we do about it?

And that poor girl without her Mom. My heart goes out to her.

Anonymous said... @ November 5, 2008 at 1:09 AM

@ Aerin - yes whoever did this should pay for their crime.

@ Sherry - that is really one sick person whoever did that. And you are right, we should always be careful with the young ones may they be boys or girls.

Unknown said... @ November 5, 2008 at 1:49 AM

I'm so sorry this happened to your niece! I'm even more saddened that the doctor refused to examine her, he should be ashamed.

I don't know what to tell you. Just be there if she wants to talk about it...

O.M.G.

I can't even imagine... that poor girl!!

Dammit - doesn't it just piss you off to hear how inhuman some people can be? I wish there were something I could do to help..

All I keep thinking about is how that little's girl's very livelihood has been stolen from her... in a most horrific manner.

Sandra Carvalho said... @ November 5, 2008 at 4:15 AM

How awful!!!That's absolutely disgusting!I'm so sorry for her poor thing...
In my opinion there should be no mercy for people like that.
No mercy for the rapist and no mercy for the doctor!
I pray to God keep my kids safe cause if something like that ever happens, I don't know what I'm capable to do...
Hang on girl.

oh my goodness jade!

that is so terrible...yeah, i have heard several incidents lately on TV and they just make me sick. but it is different if you know the victim and at worst, you are related.

oh my i am so sorry to hear that. i hope justice will be served. and rightfully so.

Oh Jade. This is terrible. I am so sorry. I hope your niece is able to find the justice she deserves.

This made me feel sick when i read this. Something similar happened to members in our family by a relative.

I hope that the person who did this to your niece is dealt with by the law and put away for a long time.

No child (or ANYBODY) should have to go through this.

Anonymous said... @ November 5, 2008 at 3:45 PM

@ Ria - I am hoping for the girl's safety too. I wish that she would never ever have to endure any more horrific things like this.

Sherry Go Sharing said... @ November 5, 2008 at 5:40 PM

if we have the technology and device like the U.S I think that can give children more security. on the other hand I think the cost of the device won't be cheap too.

Anonymous said... @ November 5, 2008 at 7:05 PM

That is really really a bad news.I felt sorry for the child. It will really take time for her to heal . At that age, she should see the world beautifully. SOme grown ups must be very very sick to even put this child to this devastating state.
I would want to wring the neck of the uncle and those who chose to ignore the child's case.

Anonymous said... @ November 5, 2008 at 7:50 PM

That is terrible! This really break my heart. I hate children in pain or anything like that. That man who did it should be hang! I hope, that someone will take actions and will not disregard otherwise it'll just happen again and again because they think its ok to behave that way. Its really a sad world. It frustrates me!

I'm sorry to hear about this. Its horrific, These kind of people are really psychic and they should not exist in our society, feeling so bad for the poor girl.

God bless her

I am so sad to hear about this. It is very sad that this kind of evil exists in our world. I pray that she will be able to overcome this horrible thing with the support of love and care around her. It sounds like you are one of those people.

Oh jade, I am so so sorry to hear about this. I have been extremely busy with real life chores for the last few days and missed this.

My prayers are with the little girl and her family. As a survivor of sexual abuse as a child I can tell you that she really needs help as early as possible.

It's just terrible that there are no places for her to get support.

I too hope with all of my heart that the person that did this awful thing will get his just desserts!!

Keeping you in my prayers as well!!

Anonymous said... @ November 6, 2008 at 5:05 AM

You should also file charges against the doctor who refused to provide treatment. I bet there's a case for that as well.

I hope some justice can come of this, there is no crime more terrible, that poor girl...

LuAnn @ BackPorchervations said... @ November 6, 2008 at 3:47 PM

If I were that uncle I would get the heck out of Dodge, know what I mean? And do you mean that the father knew about what the uncle was doing?

If someone tried that with one of my children they better hope the police find them before I do.

I wouldn't want to be that "uncle" when karma catches up with him!

Crista said... @ November 7, 2008 at 11:47 AM

I am so sad to hear about what happened to your niece. People that do those things are screwed up in the head and need psychiatric help. The doctor should be man enough to make sure this bastard doesn't do that again to someone else. My prayers are with you.

Anonymous said... @ November 7, 2008 at 12:42 PM

That's so horrible Jade! For the kid, this is such traumatic for her to learn this early how cruel and evil others can be. For the culprit, better for him to be hanged in nude and cut his thing, or better burn his thing.

ctdweller said... @ November 7, 2008 at 4:58 PM

Send the criminal to the gas chamber, sorely missing in the Philippines. If he is not a psychiatric case, he is under the influence of shabu.

I am sorry to hear this happening to a relative, Jade. Also her immediate psychiatric rehabilitation must be first and foremost.
